Don Lucho’s Takeover Brings Peruvian Menu to Hungry Diners

Don Lucho’s is a well-known food truck in Seattle. Last weekend, they popped up for The Takeover at Chop Suey. They brought Peruvian eats to Latin beats by DJ Maki Katt. My Seattle Foodie Podcast co-host Nelson Lau and I were able to make it in for an early lunch. I’ve been familiar with Don Lucho’s sandwiches for a long time. They’re unique, flavorful, and hearty. For The Takeover, Owner Carlo Chalisea brought a different menu that I’ve never tried before.

The empanadas were a great start and done in collaboration with Maria Luisa Empanadas. They were filled with pulled chicken in aji amariollo sauce. The sauce is made from a mild Peruvian pepper sautéed with onions, garlic, and blended with evaporated milk. It’s the perfect spice for me and I loved it on the empanada.

Peruvian Chicken Wings

Next up was the Peruvian chicken wings. You know I love chicken wings! Generally, I’m not a fan of naked wings. These were seasoned well, fried crisp, and juicy inside. They were delicious!

I was getting full but had to have the ceviche. It was diced rockfish mixed with lime juice, onions, cilantro aji limo, served on a bed of lettuce with a side of Andean corn and sweet potato. This was hearty and the portion was huge! Generous, filling chunks of rockfish filled the tray. The lime had a refreshing citrus punch and I loved the cilantro in this dish.

Everything was delicious! The staff from Don Lucho’s and Chop Suey were great! Stay tuned – Don Lucho’s has another popup on March 23rd!
